Background
The Subaru Impreza is a petrolhead’s dream, manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru since 1992.
Mainstream versions have been equipped with 'boxer' flat-four engines ranging from 1.5 to 2.5-litres, while the performance-oriented Impreza WRX and WRX STi models were enhanced with turbochargers.
Since the third generation series, some markets have adopted the abbreviated Subaru WRX name for these high performance variants.
From the early 1990s through to 2008, Subaru enjoyed enormous success on the World Rally stage and the Impreza was the star.
All-wheel drive, strong acceleration, excellent traction and reliable brakes made the cars seriously capable performers.
The WRX, or 'World Rally eXperimental' production car, was based on the rally-winning Impreza and retained many driver-focused features and systems.
The WRX STi was the top of the line version and in the right hands, it was a hard to beat car.
